CNC760 Line driver axis breakout

This expansion card for the CNC760 has differential outputs. This makes the signals less sensitive to EMI interference.

The CNC760 can produce a step frequency of up to 400 kHz. Some servo and stepper motor drivers only accept these higher frequencies when using differential signals to ensure proper signal integrity.

For example, the Delta A2 and B2 and B3A Servo systems can operate at much higher frequencies when using the line driver input (up to 4MHz is what the driver can handle). This allows you to do two things. You can increase the maximum speed of your CNC or other machine. On the other hand, if you already have enough speed, you can use the extra bandwidth to create a higher step resolution. This means smoother movement and less following error. This really makes sense, especially with servo systems, because they often have encoders with 160,000 or more pulses/rev. These are usually canceled out by the E-gear ratios.

Here is an example of what happens in practice. We often reduce the resolution of a B2 servo system with E-gear ratio (P1-44 and P1-45) from 160,000 pulses/rev to 1000 pulses/rev, in order to still achieve sufficient speed at 125khz. With the new line driver card, we can go from 125khz to 400khz. That is a factor of 3.2 improvement. So we can increase our resolution from 1000pulses/rev to 3200pulses/rev. This also means our following errors decrease with the same factor 3.2.
